My name is Anil Polat and I’ve been travel blogging for over 3 years and some of my other blogs include foXnoMad, Tech Guide For Travel, and How To Travel With Pets. I don’t have all of the answers but would like to share what I’ve learned about travel blogging with you. I hope that you’ll add to the discussion and leave your own tips and advice in the comments section of each post.
First, Congratulations !
The first cut looks quite impressive. Informative and I am sure if this remains this way, this blog is going to fetch you more satisfaction in every respect.
Once a week is a good schedule to start with., especially when you have other blogs as well. For me, it’s difficult to manage even one !
I have already subscribed to it, you know I have become a great fan of your writings. But can’t comment on all your posts. 😛
Thank you very much! I’m glad you like this initial set of content. I hope the make each post informative and as useful as possible. I debated a while between once a week or twice a month but felt I had so much material and didn’t want to leave the site hanging for too long that I landed one the Friday schedule.
I’ve also got one (last for a while) blog coming out next week so didn’t want to completely overwhelm myself!
I appreciate you subscribing and following along, and of course any comments you leave – certainly doesn’t have to be on every post!!
I think foxnomad is a great website.
Thank you very much!
I got a blog too (about art), so I know how hard it can be to make your blog attractive among the hundreds of related blogs. Thanks for these tips, they will come in handy.
Thanks for stopping by Frank. Yes, much of the advice here is applicable to all blogs, glad you’ve found it useful.
Just getting started too. Found your other site and commented on Iceland ash. Thanks.
Good luck getting started. Hope this site helps you as you travel blog…
Interesting points! I aslo like your travel with pets blog!
Hi Natasa, so nice to hear you like both sites, thank you very much!
Hi, Anil. I just discovered your travel advice blog and this article is just perfect as I was planning to start my own local travel advice blog. Your article on “How To Keep Your Travel Blog Going” by sticking to a schedule and regular posting is spot on and quite inspirational for me. Your advice to “connect” rather than promote when using social media makes complete sense to me. Thanks for sharing these great articles to fledgling travel bloggers like me.
I’m very glad to hear you’ve found the site useful – let me know if you ever have any specific questions and I’ll do my best to address them. Good luck!
I am thinking about setting up a blog to offer travel arrangement services in my town. Thanks Anil
Good luck with it Sunduvan!
This is great information Anil. I’ve been building a (sort of travel) blog on my spare time. It’s mostly about where I live and for people visiting. But, I am always getting stuck. Finding your website has helped out a lot!
I’m glad it helped, let me know if you have any questions along the way 🙂
Thanks Anil! So just wondering… how do you find the time to keep up your blog? I have a hard time finding time to write. Just wondering…
A good schedule helps and it’s essential to prioritize your writing so you have a steady stream of ideas coming. Of course, it’s slightly easier for me since blogging is my job 😉
I’m so glad to run into your site, this will help me a lot. Everything I need to know about travel blogging was here. Your a god-send! Thanks.
My pleasure and glad to hear it!
Thanks for the article. I found the one on how to make money travel blogging to be helpful. Cheers!
Anil you do a great job of keeping up good content across your blogs. It’s hard to keep up with multiple blogs! Not quite sure how you do it!
I often wonder myself 😉 thanks!
So what’s good marketing advice? How to break out of a couple of hundred visits per day?
That’s a big question and a lot like a chef asking how to make their restaurant popular. I would suggest setting small, incremental and concrete goals but the spark to success you’ll find through failure. Experiment often, learn from your mistakes, and be flexible in the face of results.
This is what exactly I’m doing now. I just email and comment at all travel blogs for link exchange. Just hope it works.
My friends and I just started a travel blog, hope you can drop by and leave some feedback or comment. Our first entry is about backpacking in New Zealand.
Keep in touch and best of luck!
Some great advice! We’ve been traveling full-time for almost a year now and love learning from like-minded others. http://www.venturists.net Happy Travels!
